(I understand that the web needs to be backwards compatible, but the current defaults are thirty years old, right…?)

I like this idea. My main problem with starting any new website is how do I build a baseline stylesheet? Any advice gets out-of-date really fast (within months), which makes it even harder.

I mean politically it’ll be a nightmare, but it also bothers me that the defaults are out of touch with the majority of devices that the web is browsed on. There needs to be a better way.

Some maximum line length in characters. (Also, don't you dare make the default text color some pallid Grey). Something along the lines of https://edwardtufte.github.io/tufte-css/ or https://resilientwebdesign.com/

No, definitely full contrast, and yeah, good line measure would be great!

Thought: only have these new defaults apply when a page has no css of its own, no presentational elements (<font>, etc) and no style attributes. If you want to style it yourself, get the old defaults automatically.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

A boring, incremental option, but maybe a browser extension would be a good place to start?

For testing, or…?
