That's very true. This is from a German locomotive built in 1968, and while it's a lot more sophisticated, those levers on the right haven't really changed at all. That's because it's still required to have an actual, physical brake valve in the cab for security reasons.pic.twitter.com/mN7IqwU4tY
Do you know what those reasons are…? I remember reading that early fly-by-wire planes had backup manual controls, but that actually made them *less* safe overall.
So while you can control almost anything electronically these days, you can't get rid of direct interaction with the machine entirely.
