finally, arrow keys that don't insult our intelligence
Well, if that helps: http://www.eldacur.com/~brons/NerdCorner/InverseT-History.html …
fascinating. I often think about how this evolution affected games and the ergonomics on navigating a virtual world (videogames are my profession) using peripherals that were never explicitly designed for it. ie: mouse and keyboard, the tools of the spreadsheet & word processor
Oh yeah, there are some fascinating artifacts along the way. This is for you if you haven’t seen it yet:pic.twitter.com/lzvuyBF71H
What blew my mind is that we are now literally getting keyboards for playing games in consoles, e.g.https://www.polygon.com/2015/7/27/9045611/hori-delivers-ps4-keyboard-mouse-controller-in-time-for-black-ops-3 …
Atari 2600 had a Keyboard Controller. Magnavox Odyssey 2/Phillips Videopack G7000 had one built in. Dreamcast had a keyboard controller too. It's not a new idea!
Atari 2600 et al. keyboards had a very different flavour. They were about making the consoles feel more “useful” and real-computer-like (programming etc.) Even the Dreamcast one was promoted as a chatting tool and there were typing games.
The newer one I listed is one, however, which doesn’t have any other aspirations than being a keyboard dedicated 100% for gaming.
