Atari 2600 had a Keyboard Controller. Magnavox Odyssey 2/Phillips Videopack G7000 had one built in. Dreamcast had a keyboard controller too. It's not a new idea!
Atari 2600 et al. keyboards had a very different flavour. They were about making the consoles feel more “useful” and real-computer-like (programming etc.) Even the Dreamcast one was promoted as a chatting tool and there were typing games.
