I love the longpress feature for adding "Umlaute", but it still feels too slow. It would be amazing if in those cases the letter would work as a modifier key:
pressing u and 2 = ü
pressing a and 4 = ä

No, I meant: Why is Ù a combination of [U long press, then 3], rather than [U long press, then `], for consistency with [Alt + `, then U]. I guess just simplicity.
Yeah, probably just easier to tie it to a character + numbers as modifiers. Let's say you learnt that Ù is [U long press, then `] and then you come across the situation of having to type Û. You'd have to search for the modifier key that does that.
