Whoa, using ligatures to fit text is maybe a bit controversial, no? Rather, would you want to disable ligatures at wider viewports? Love this demo

It took me a while to figure out why the tiniest size fonts of renaissance Greek types contained more complex ligatures than the larger sizes. It was to be able to more efficiently fit marginal notes in narrow widths.
