Great to see this positive attitude about “competitors”. We are building the future together.https://twitter.com/figmadesign/status/1009896273737142279 …

Hey, I got distracted earlier and forgot to reply to you about that bummer experience you had with that editor. Shake it off — your book is amazing and unique. You deserve an editor who is as invested as you are in the book’s success. Also, it’s been great watching your progress.

Thanks so much!!! I appreciate you saying that. It’s funny because both my career and that book are in a similar position today: I am trying to carve out a unique shape for both, and I experience a bunch of people who don’t know how to react to unique shapes.

It’s tough being unique. People try to bucket other people way too much. I find this often with “engineers” and “designers”. Many people I know who hold these titles have a variety of skills, but the org locks them into a specific role and they only grow one way.

Some of the most interesting and rewarding challenges for me at Medium were as “type engineer,” with neither of these words being in my job description. :·)
