Google Maps sometimes does by putting an emphasis on the street names and direction to take, but it's quite random (i've been testing just now, it seems it's only for short distances)pic.twitter.com/slLfykb5mH

That’s interesting!

Agreed. Also, a while back, you could tap on a turn and get the details. If you are navigating, this was awesome. Now, you have to jump back and forth between the map and steps, which is frustrating.

I'm constantly panning/zooming arbitrarily to try to get those labels to render, have never been able to figure out a consistent logic
-
Yes, exact same! I have a sense the system that’s rendering labels is pretty robust (nothing overlaps!) – what would it take is a change in prioritization + understanding of where turns happen spatially.

The most frustrating maps "feature," the one that can drive me to tears, is zooming in to see a street name and maps just keeps the font small, or worse, makes the name disappear. Either label all turns or let users zoom.
-
Yes, I think that’s a corollary to the dream I was describing! Labels are too “magical” and unpredictable.

Heck, It could annotate the map with a bubble showing "
