Just a @Polymer 3.0 button in a single humble HTML site – is that no longer possible without creating a module and/or installing a ton of dependencies that transpile/compile/webpack/babel?!! #webdev #frontend

Seriously, 82 MiB in node_modules. yarn → yarn workspaces (because its in a subdir, UI for a server written in Go) → webpack → babel → html-webpack-plugin. For. A. Single. Paper-Button.

The entire GNU/Linux image (uncompressed) I push to my servers – yes: bootloader, kernel and userland with curl and bash – has 80 MiB…

Seriously, this gave me an inflammation or something. ‘webpack’ katamaris the button and nonsense for kicks to 355 kiB, 'polymer build' nets 650 kib. You can have an entire mail transport daemon (Postfix) within ⅒ of that!

Minimizer? Ters*? I lost control; how does anyone even review all that and its products? We obsess over concepts like trusting-trust, verified boot, minimal attack surface, reproducible builds… and then we're supposed to npm-install a third of the entire universe‽
