Just spent several hours debugging deployment issue due to a cryptic "no attribute __reduce_cython__". Github issue says it was fixed in Cython 0.28, and we have 0.29. Turns out, problem has nothing to do with that issue and I fixed it by adding missing dependency in setup. Wow.

I just wrote about a technique that saved me from making a $100,000 mistake. Of the 3000 interviews I did at ZeroCater, this one was the strangest.

Here’s a robust psychological effect that does not wilt under replication scrutiny. Kurt Lewin noticed it in the 1930s: making public commitments “freezes” attitudes in place. So saying something dumb makes you a bit dumber. It becomes harder to correct yourself. Tweeters beware.

Brains are amazing. Our lab demonstrates that single human layer 2/3 neurons can compute the XOR operation. Never seen before in any neuron in any other species. Out now in . Congrats Albert, Tim  & CO

Speaking of our team, I just want to note that has been a majority female-run open-source project for quite some time ✊ Core devs: , Adriane (not on Twitter), & me. (Or put differently: we have more female NLP PhDs on our team than guys named Matt.)

I’ve read several articles about property-based tests and all of them have these simple examples like encode-decode or “generate a list of customers instead of 3”. I would very much like to read an article that “propertizes” a test with complex interdependent fixtures.

Randomly helpful data thing: need to cluster in 1D? Try the Fisher-Jenks algorithm! Here's how I use it: I if want to select the top-n things, but I'm not sure what n should be, this can give an data-determined n.

Встречаются два GraphQL эксперта: – Как сделать приличный API? – Могу рассказать. – Рассказать и я могу, а делать-то что?

I added "format": "yyyy" to range clause to fix it. I also found no mentions of this change in the list of breaking changes, no mentions in range docs, no mention in date math docs.

Elasticsearch 7 changed how they parse dates. {"range": {"gte": "2014", "lte": "2017"}} after upgrade started parsing as a timestamp instead of "year 2014". Since it's JVM, it's in milliseconds. I was receiving results from 1970-01-01T00:00:02.014...017. Which were zero.

I'm thinking about hiring UX/UI designer for my product. Never hired one before. Do you have any advice on how to proceed? What are the questions I should ask them? What are the questions I should ask myself before that?

It’s also a somewhat unhelpful answer to question of “How would you write these mixins with overload?”: I would try to explore something like having a list of behaviors instead of classes, mixins, inheritance, strange super calls, etc.

This isn’t the first time when I try to do something in Python and I cant’t design anything good, it all ends up complicated. Then I think “What would I do if I would solve it on Clojure?” and boom, done. Except this time it was a small thing and I actually wrote it in Clojure

I have this long complicated function in Python that I needed to write in Clojure. I just couldn’t - in Clojure it looked super shitty halfway in. Wrote it from scratch, got three functions. When I fixed a corner case (business logic), I rewrote Python version in the same way

I've got a literally life and death one. 5G cell networks are going to set back weather forecasting ~30 yrs bc they operate at frequencies too near that of water vapor in the atmosphere, harming measurements. We'll lose 2-3 days' worth of accuracy in hurricane path forecasting.

Font rendering changed in a new PyCharm 2019.2 and it's giving my eyes a bit of a bleed. Updating Fira Code to the latest 1.207 didn't help. Changing to Fira Code Medium did help, but it's still different and now I have to get used to it until it changes again
