I mean I was just at Confab joking with @awelfle that the reason writers are undervalued in the design process is that there is no complicated, arcane, or expensive tool people identify with writing.
It's not even really a joke.

I think you're on to something with this. There's a related sentiment I've come to believe: people actually like tools that FEEL powerful, even though it makes the tool really hard to learn for newcomers or outsiders. That's kind of the point.
