Do we have any solid evidence that large-scale outdoor meetings, celebrations, protestations or days out on the beach have led to significant Covid outbreaks anywhere? We should have good evidence by now. Generally outdoors and windy is safer than indoors, even if it’s crowded.

Nope. There are no confirmed superspreading events or large clusters that are outdoors only. We saw no surge in cases after BLM protests & they were nationwide. Measures taken to restrict outdoor activities are disproportionate compared with the risk they pose. Thread w/links.https://twitter.com/mugecevik/status/1367520145808248841 …

The Bergamo - Valencia football match from last February is no longer thought to have contributed to the pace of outbreak in Northern Italy?

There's evidence how TRANSPORT TO OUTDOOR MASS events in crowded buses, trains, trams & cars enabled such large #Covid clusters. One such example is a Feb 2020 soccer #ChampionsLeague match of #AtalantaBergamo vs #FCValencia: it took place in #Milan, 60km distant from Bergamo.

This soccer match was deemed as THE key #superspreader event which drove the later #Bergamo tragegy of the #FirstWave and they marked it as #MatchZero. Since it‘s so rare for local club to play #CL, lots of public+private viewing parties also took place indoor.

Can't we all just carefully monitor what we really need to do to keep cases down. My mums in a residential home and my mum and others need visitors

Countless studies show that asymptomatic transmission is so rare as to be almost nonexistent. As long as people with symptoms stay at home (or seek medical attention) we should be fine.

The only ones I can think of were when Athletico Madrid came to Liverpool in March 2020 and Cheltenham Festival. These were both massive events and in no way comparable to Clapham Common vigil but and I seem to recall reports of spikes in Liverpool and Cheltenham.

Could that be more attributable to the travelling fans staying in hotels / guest house; eating at restaurants and drinking in bars?
