Delighted that our paper on temporal dynamics of #SARSCoV2 , SARS and MERS viral shedding and infectiousness is published today. People infected with SARS-CoV-2 are most likely to be highly infectious in the first week of symptom onset. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanmic/article/PIIS2666-5247(20)30172-5/fulltext …pic.twitter.com/kJ1uCUnTLk

Here is a thread (+ figure) that summarises the main findings of the paper. Thanks to the tremendous work by Drs. Matt Tate, @silverfoxdoc, Alberto Enrico Maraolo, Jenna Schafers & @DrToniHo https://twitter.com/mugecevik/status/1288440970355376128?lang=en-gb …pic.twitter.com/2hiDoxdyPE

Do you have an idea what percentage of people could be infectious after 9 days after exhibiting symptoms?

Great work!!! Do these findings imply that symptoms-based controls (e.g., daily symptom checks) might be more effective than we think? Since infectiousness peaks *after* symptom onset (vs. IIRC previous findings that *viral loads* peak *before* symptom onset)?

x-axis on that chart is really messed up 😕 -- makes the incubation period look like 10 days! And why no ranges? There should be a plume, not a line

What do you think about the duration of the quarantine period for people who have contacted with positive cases? It is set to 10 and 14 in different countries.

Even further than this: in some country - at least Italy- a negative PCR is still needed after 10 days isolation even if all synthomes are far gone. Isn't this excessive even as a matter of precautionary principle? Ping @RobertoBurionihttps://twitter.com/mugecevik/status/1329817594115846145?s=19 …
