As odious as the Iranian regime is, it is both more organized and less murderous than North Korea. The position of engaging Iran but not NK is far more defensible than the reverse (ie current US policy under Trump)

The American state also tends to be highly organized and highly murderous. Don't see how either of those traits negate the utility of engagement with it
