Then say the responsibility is with Trump--not Democrats. Democrats aren't forcing Trump to try to rejoin TPP or bomb Syria. Trump is doing it. Put the blame on the party actually doing the actions you are condemning. Instead its bs about how Dems are really at fault herehttps://twitter.com/mtracey/status/984531725056344064 …

The idea that this tweet constitutes a denial that Republicans have free will is insane. It's been a truism in International Relations theory for decades that domestic political factors influence foreign policy decision-making. Nevertheless, Trump obviously bears responsibility.

Take a look at the second tweet in the thread you quoted, which explicitly identifies Trump as at fault.https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/984119804578721792 …

Yes, of course Trump is responsible for the bombs Trump drops. But domestic political incentives always affect foreign policy decision-making. Democrats have spent the past 1.5 years denying this.

The emphasis was on Democrats in the tweets. Your message is clear: Democratic messaging had a huge impact on making Trump take this course of action. I believe this narrative is false

Think of it this way. Republicans didn't literally "force" Obama to do things when they were in opposition, but they still bore responsibility insofar as their rhetoric influenced the political environment. I don't remember that contention being controversial from 2009 to 2017.

I think Obama was responsible for his actions as President. Nobody would say, "GOP forced Obama to do ACA," for instance. He had House/Sen majorities. Trump has House/Senate majorities now--nobody is forcing him to do anything. Arg would hold more weight if Dems controlled Cong
