Predictable and unfortunate reaction to the Austin bombing suspect -- similar to the reaction after recent mass shootings -- is to demand that he be labeled a "terrorist," rather than question the utility of the "terrorist" label itself

Which suggests that lots of people, at bottom -- whether or not they realize it -- don't object to the reactionary policy implications of shouting "terrorism," they object only to its inequitable application

Stop with this! It's not "expanding." it's utilizing the word properly and consistently without the filter of White Privilege.pic.twitter.com/KwRZ8xOwzY

To change what we consider terrorism as frankly extremism from the last several years has been far right. It’s an actual problem but I’m really loath to call for using the term more. I’d like to delegitimize DHS.

I think one point of expanding the scope is to avoid the bigotry of applying the term to only members of a particular ethnicity or religion, as if committing acts of terror were exclusive to them.

It makes it clear that you can’t just knee-jerk think Terrorists are only Brown People too? It rubs the racist White People who support Trump’s (and Clinton’s) noses in their own complicity, which is always a positive thing to do?

I. Just. Can't. When terminology becomes more important than the act or prevention/solutions. This is the internet effect. It's utter disconnect.
