Predictable and unfortunate reaction to the Austin bombing suspect -- similar to the reaction after recent mass shootings -- is to demand that he be labeled a "terrorist," rather than question the utility of the "terrorist" label itself

Expanding the spectrum of who's deemed a "terrorist" serves what desirable social or political purpose, exactly? On the other hand, highlighting the fundamental incoherence and uselessness of the concept serves a fairly clear desirable purpose

😒 Yeah because otherwise white men might be systematically discriminated against as a group and....oh wait. 🙄 Dude, "freedom of speech" doesn't mean you have to speak before you think!

I’d rather they cover all stories like they did in Austin with caution and nuance instead of how they covered it in Boston marathon bombing

After physical therapy for many weeks, he is back to his best. Heavens to Betsy that the assault wasn’t worse or else we would have been deprived of insightful perspectives such as this. Hopefully he has body guards to protect him from older women politicians next time.

I tend to differ with some counterparts & agree on this—it’s a propagandized category. Mainly because I think it’s deeper & not only the last person in the chain is responsible. The total lack of political will to confront it — one might cynically consider a green light.

It’s not only the label but everything that goes along with. Do we delve into why an Islamic terrorist chose the wrong path? Do we paint them as a nice kid who just let society get him down? Do we mourn with their family or put their wives on trial?

The actual complaint is that they media is calling him White and not calling him a terrorist. I know reading is hard, but try to keep up.

Mass murder of civilians? Check. Any coherent political or religious philosophy tied to a wider movement? Not according to those who've heard his self-loathing recording, despite outlets trying to create one out of years-old comments. Definitely terrorism-like actions.
