Italy is one of the well documented cases of election meddling after WWII, by the United States and CIA. And it didn't stop with an election. See Operation Gladio and the strategy of tension.

Also the claim that
@sputnik_italia played a significant role is absurd on its face. It only has ~6,000 followers and, using the metric of influence I explain in this thread (https://twitter.com/phl43/status/946864280900653056 …), I found that even I, with my 5,000+ followers, have more reach than them. -
Specifically,
@sputnik_italia has a score of 9619, whereas I have one of 10747. But even in the most unlikely scenario, there is no way I would have even a small influence on a national election in France, yet that's exactly what we are supposed to believe about@sputnik_italia. - 1 more reply

Her last question is key. She wants the mere accusation of benefiting from supposed Russian interference to disqualify candidates. It's a modern-day denunciation.

That's lucky. Normally it's just US interference.

The CIA got rid of our only Australian Prime Minister who wouldn't do American bidding. What are democracies going to do about America is more of the problem?

If Democrats win big time in November, will they declare regardless of any evidence that Russia didn't influence the election? It sure seems like it.

It is reductive & externalizing tensions & pol weakness that allows space for fascist politics (that never went away) to grow. We say a lot about supply of disinfo, but I do think we should look at what it says that there’s a demand for all kinds of “disinfo” not just Russian.

Is it perceived truthfulness? Is it the lack of diversity? I think everyone needs to consider the ramifications of this problem, as any riders to the First Amendment would be inherently problematic.

Their underlying assumption appears to be that everyone other than these Experts is a mindless dupe; voters are tabula rasa sheep who do whatever they're told -- hence the need for Experts who will protect Democracy by choosing the correct candidates for us.

I really don't understand your insistence that Russia is not trying to influence elections.
-
Yes. Russia really is trying to influence the US elections, just like the US has meddled in so many elections and internal affairs in several countries But the problem in the
#USA must still be the outdated election system, the biased media, and the closed debates#OpenTheDebates

The US has always used the spectre of something or other as a cover for the ways in which capitalism breaks down democracy. And centrists never look at the big picture.

I remember being forced by the Russians to vote for Brexit. It's too traumatic to go into details, but I am 100% sure this happened to at least a million Brexit voters!

What a laugh! It would be truly comical if so many decent people weren't falling for it. Well, fewer now... hopefully

Please don't call her a foreign policy expert. She was a lawyer and early staunch supporter of Obama for which she was rewarded with a politically appointed post for which she was grossly unqualified.
