"Violent video games" obviously shouldn't be banned but it's weird that people get so offended at the suggestion that immersing in hyper-realistic first-person shooters for 9 hours a day from early childhood onward might have an adverse psychological impact on a tiny % of players

That's true but at that point the argument is "x seems like it could cause shootings, we just don't know" and there is not testable rebuttal, so actually NOT playing violent video games also causes shootings. It's just as meaningless.
