Yes, except in the most extreme cases (threats of imminent violence) the involvement of law enforcement in mental health should be minimized at all costs, largely because of the stigmatization that comes with it.

If you ever want to talk about it with someone here, Portland police literally has had a DOJ settlement about excessive force upon a protected class- people w/ mental health issues. More security state, More stigmatization, wrong direction.

Are you referring to the Sheriff from last nights townhall on
@CNN ? His heart seemed in the right place put his pleas for more power to the police and the ability to involuntary dump people into mental health hospitals was ridiculous... -
Yes, the Sheriff's comments last night spurred my thought here, but others have also echoed his sentiments.

Florida has what is unofficially called the "Baker Act" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida_Mental_Health_Act …). We already give law enforcement officials the power to involuntary hold somebody for medical observation. Many states have this same law.

Agreed that was very troubling about out Broward mayor saying that in reference to the Florida act that would make that possible. But he railed on the NRA lady so that was nice

Isn't this what Trump basically overturned? I read so many comment yesterday about how the NRA helped Trump overturn a law that would allow ppl worth mental illness get guns. That doesn't seem to be what he did.

MK Ultra drugs haven't come up once in the "liberal" media. Not that they'd use that term, but SSRIs would do. Why is NO ONE talking about this? These meds are known to make people suicidal and homicidal and tip very troubled people over the edge.

Thing is, we’ve given the government this ability for quite some time – ask Ezra Pound.
