The alleged authoritarian overtake of government seems inconsistent with the ruling party’s repeated inability to even keep the government open

weirdly the competent authoritarians of recent history don't seem to provoke the same kind of frenzy as the incompetent ones

I’m a huge critic of state, but I can’t imagine a better recipe for accelerating public consent for the evacuation of the public sector by a corporate coup than several weeks of “govt is futile”

Maybe the psyop or authoritarianism is power getting people into a lose-lose parsing out what’s “less bad.” (Or that it’ll be the end of civilization if anything changes.) I was talking about gov shut down conceptually ^and^ when 2/3 of taxes are spent on crippling countries.

In terms of sliding into a dictatorship, we're closer to Interwar Austria than the Nazis as we're most likely to do so by accidentally falling into a parliamentary failure state that effectively deletes the government

Only if you think it's Republican vs Democrat instead of rich vs non rich. Authority over the non rich is nearly complete and being accelerated under this administration.

I don't think that's inconsistent at all! In fact, governmental dysfunction and authoritarianism often go together!
