I think it's annoying because "flipped" connotes that the thing has been "flipped" from the land of evil back into the land of good, as if everybody intuitively shares that moral presumption

Assumes one party "owns" a certain voting district. It's offensive. Just like gerrymandering arguments. Voting patterns change. What's good for one party now is bad later. People should stop trying to micromanage voting.
