Maybe this is a dumb question, but: if The Memo contains misleading information and paints a false narrative (certainly possible) wouldn’t the proper course be to ... release the memo, so it can be publicly evaluated, and its misleading/false nature can be demonstrated?

        1) GOP’s motives are clearly cynical/have nothing to do with any principled commitment to transparency 2) Even so, it’s untenable to end up with a position here that amounts to: “please, government, for our own good: continue concealing this information ”

Hard to see how one can maintain a 100% warranted skepticism of the over-broad US classification regimen and then argue that this particular memo should stay classified because 1) FBI says so, or 2) its release may in some vague sense help Trump

The assumption would appear to be that in order to show how it is a false or incomplete narrative, the use of the underlying classified material would be needed, and since it wont be revealed, the false narrative will persist unrebutted. That't my understanding.

Releasing classified document A could be warranted even if you’d need documents B C and D to elucidate the full context of A

You can't evaluate the memo without reviewing the FISA warrant application, which is classified. No FISA warrant application has ever been made public.

It’s true that there is other information which ought to be made available to the public, but I don’t see how that’s an argument in favor of *concealing* this particular information.

I think the whole idea is to prevent the memo from being released!

What's stopping the FBI DOJ from releasing the information necessary for the public to understand the information in a complete context?

"The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open Society" JFK Let it All Hangout! Secrecy is the greatest tool the 1% has to oppress the 99%. Especially under the Ruse...you can't know because it's a matter of "National Security"!

You imply that truth is subjective which lines up with our dear leader’s POV. What a time to be alive

My understanding is that the information that would disprove or provide context is classified and GOP is not allowing the public or the media to see it. “Disaffected orphan farmboy Luke Skywalker blows up space station killing thousands” sounds pretty bad out of context.

The public is better at dealing w/ the truth, than lies THAT is the history, truth is what brought every positive change, not govt. issued proclamations not open to dispute & saying Big Brother know whats best for you. NOT part of the Constitution. Very slippery slope to fascism.
