A handful of idiot pundits are going to say Trump "seems presidential" tonight or whatever, and that's going to be presented as evidence that the media's gone soft on Trump, even though there's more open media hostility to Trump than any president in modern history

you are taking an objective standpoint and I like that.
-
the thing is: he is provoking the hostility. (Maybe even intentionally) From a professional media, I would expect that they are able to keep their objectivity and don’t let themselves be provoked.

Michael, this is your analysis at the time when
POTUS is going off the rails? Doesn't his actions and the GOP complicit with him go against all your principles of transparency, truth and the balance of power? Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

segments of the press seem more rankled by grotesqueness & forgo all else as soon as he does something they like. Davos. Syria. Some press feels like the GOP, perhaps another type of partisanship. They aren’t constituted to hold someone accountable if it impinges on their interest
-
like every issue, I’d frame it like this. “Ok, can we agree on outcome? That the press should hold all power accountable - elected, corps, institutions. Ok can we agree that it’s not helpful to do this selectively?” Rather than go softer on Trump they could notch it up elsewhere.

One has to wonder, what kind of poor media diet you consume to conclude that there's no difference between "hostility" and "unfairness". The media is and should be openly hostile to those who seek to destroy America and should actively ignore their cries of victimhood.
