Note the framing here: encircling Russia with increasing numbers of US combat troops is normal and good, while advocating that this not be done is insane and possibly treasonoushttps://www.thedailybeast.com/white-house-official-floated-withdrawing-us-forces-to-please-putin …

I get where you're coming from, but the level of US force in the Baltics is clearly deterrent only to prevent Russia from stomping them and presenting a fait accompli. I'm not into russia hysteria, but calling a couple thousand light troops "encircling" is sort of hysteria also.

Something tells me that most American politicians would not see the word "encircling" as "hysterical" if Russian troops were deployed to Canada and Mexico.

Yeah, I won't disagree with that either. I would also say they were overreacting if Mexico and Canada were hosting as many troops and as little hardware as the Baltics are hosting from NATO.

Indeed. The best counter-factual on this comes from Peter Hitchens @ClarkeMicah in his talk “The EU is the continuation of Germany by other means.”https://youtu.be/3CNeDtZmpjU

Imagine the United States in the early 90s had to give back the states it stole from Mexico (California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas) with San Diego as a joint Mexican/American military harbor.

funny, anytime anyone talks about securing borders I ask if they’ve taken a look at our borders. we have an astronomically large border. we don’t have a hostile superpower stationed at our gate. Or paramilitaries shooting at each other, kidnappings.

False equivalence. Canada and Mexico are unlikely to request those troops. The Baltic countries, on the other hand, are happy to see US troops there for historical reasons that hardly need to be explained.

Further, do you know how to read a map? Take a look at the size of the baltics. Take a look at the size of Russia. How on earth does one "encircle" a country that covers roughly as much territory as the US and Canada combined from a trio of countries that are dwarfed by ,,,

If Canada and Mexico joined a Russian defense alliance, maybe. If the US had a multi-Century history of conquest and oppression of those two places, maybe.

@HillaryClinton the Russia story. Book Shattered by Jonathan Allen, describes @johnpodesta & @RobbyMook inventing the story within hours of election loss. Glad you didn't go along with the lie @mtracey even though others continue the lie today.Soon though it will all be revealed.
