Paradox here is that there's a genuine need for sustained coverage of Rural America's political attitudes, even if the "We Found Some Trump Supporters Somewhere In Kentucky" framing has gotten tritehttps://twitter.com/AP/status/945890548786876417 …

“He was the hope we were all waiting on, the guy riding up on the white horse.” In Kentucky, Trump's base still hopes for an economic comeback and remains solidly behind the president. http://apne.ws/0SObQYw

On the other hand, when all the Dems are offering is job outsourcing, gender neutral bathrooms and condescension, kind of hard to persuade them

Wasn't this why we used to have local newspapers? I know they're expensive and most people don't read them anymore - which is why broadband Internet needs to be a public utility.

depends which - I’d like the media to cover their issues. I’m strongly against them digging up more far right racists to propagandize, even casually. frankly I’d like to encourage more voters ~AL & encourage Dems to be more responsible to black wc voters by covering their labor

Does the MSM cover LW populists much either tho: tax bill, unions, or climate change — definitely gap in TV news It’s Ye Ol’ Russia Problem Again “Neglected in favor of cities.” Where is working class anywhere doing well? Pdx is a mid size city w/ big city issues. Getting worse

I mean where ELSE would the media get it's supply of "small-town stereotypes"?

It's actually not THAT paradoxical, Tracey. Part of the issue is that SOME people aren't interested in "Rural Americans" as much as exploiting their trappings, their backdrop.

Can they talk to someone besides toothless Appalachians (to whom they can feel superior and over whose head they can grin at us "knowingly")? How about owner of a chain of supermarkets in Nebraska? University academic in fine arts in Indiana? Upstanding Texan? Farming Iowan?
