If a voter believes that Roy Moore will help forestall the destruction of America, it would almost be irrational to expect that voter to suddenly abandon him on account of revelations about his personal conduct.

Not to mention the Bible endorses his behavior so he'll probably have even more Evangelical support

You don't need to make rational appeals. You can make emotional arguments to get people to vote.

It's rational if Doug Jones isn't actually going to destroy America. JFC.

The question then is obvious... what other sorts of bad behavior would they accept in a candidate in order to ensure the "right" sorts of votes. What are they protecting and from whom?

Neat. Since I believe globalist Democrats will help forestall the destruction of America, it isn't especially rational to expect abandonment based on revelations about conduct. Let's all go home now.

There's no way Roy Moore is innocent and there's no way zero local journo's ever heard a thing about it. But most involved would rather uphold the status quo. https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/locals-were-troubled-by-roy-moores-interactions-with-teen-girls-at-the-gadsden-mall …

It’s one senate seat out of 100, so this belief is silly, but we actually do understand the calculus — it’s what you wouldn’t do for Hillary (or rather for voters who depended on her winning).
-
(The difference is Hillary did nothing remotely illegal & you tacitly supported trump because it’s what Your Pepe followers reward you for.)

I agree with your first sentence but I don't see"ample reason" to believe allegations. What are those ample reasons?
