This is a great op-ed because it articulates what a lot of well-meaning people privately feel, but can't express https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/06/opinion/ta-nehisi-coates-whiteness-power.html …

I think on both sides of the "mirror," the line between descriptive and normative is very hazy.

So then leave the normative side out. It's reasonable to suggest that their descriptive analyses are in some sense "mirror images."

The extent of the mirror is more than a simple "bad versus good" construction: it involves shared premises worth elucidating via op-ed IMO

There's a latent, well-founded frustration with how contemporary elite liberal discourse functions, and op-eds exploring that are valuable.

You don't feel the author of the op-ed, and the many who have praised it, are well-meaning people?

While it says that Coates "empowers" whiteness, it still dares not admit that anti-whiteness JUSTIFIES it. Although that might be implied.
