No sympathy for them, but guys getting fired from pizza chains and supermarkets jobs for attending a political rally is a little unnervingpic.twitter.com/YcFMWa2J0R

People are suggesting that this wasn't a "political rally." Yes it was. Plenty of political rallies are held to advance repugnant causes.
Such terminations are permitted under the "at will" doctrine but... organized labor hates that doctrine, for giving employers the upper hand
Point being: these terminations would've been harder to impose had stronger employment protections been in place. That's the tension.
Right, so we're not permitted to discuss the issues at hand in any way other than simply condemning (which I've repeatedly done.)
Eh, I wouldn't want an employee representing my business when they condone genocide. But I'm weird like that.
It doesn't raise complicated questions, employers fire people for shit behavior all the time. People have been fired for far less
I get it, but this hate speech can create a hostile workplace. Employers can't have that.
The only thing it raises is your questionable sympathy for them. If you've ever had a job you might know there are policies for all staff.
Actually, if folks read the paperwork they signed upon employment, this would raise 0 questions. I read every word of mine. Did they?
No it doesn't.
No it doesn't. There are other employees to think about. They matter, too.
1/ I see your point. But if you run a business that services customers of all races/faiths/sexual identity - and you have a worker who....
2/ publicly pronounces views that directly contradict your business practice then doesn't the business have grounds for termination?
No it doesn't. The employer exists as an institution by the grace of the government. The employee is subject to at-will employment.
If the rally had been for the homeless, libertarians, or gays, there wouldn't be a problem with the employers.
if you can make hiring decisions based on Facebook pictures, this doesn't seem as murky or complicated as you're trying to paint it. 1/2
if one of my employees attended this rally or even held these views I'd fire them immediately 2/2
