The ACLU isn't even expending this much energy because that's practically part of their job description. Maybe it hurts their donations,

But there's no chance this expression is in actual jeopardy in our courts.

What's in jeopardy is the standing of the ACLU in the eyes of many Left people who increasingly see "free speech" as a right-wing concept.

No, man. No. People are irritated with the ACLU for various reasons. But they raised $20+ million in January. They will be fine. The real

The real frustration is w/people we generally consider allies shouting more abt the free speech of Nazis whenever counterprotestors show up

Issue isn't the financial health of the ACLU, which as you note will be fine notwithstanding this flareup. It's more a philosophical issue..

...having to do with whether it's just to defend the rights of people voicing unpopular/repugnant speech. That's what's in jeopardy.

In the courts, vast majority of us don't want the Gov't to silence any speech. But in the streets, we want the PEOPLE to oppose like hell

Everyone wants the government to silence some speech. That there are some restrictions on speech is a very well-established legal principle.

That's the whole point of the "crowded theater" idea. It's part of why I think the ACLU is defending the wrong principle, too.

I think applying the "crowded theater" idea here is misguided for reasons I won't broach now because I'm getting off Twitter for a bit.

I think Nazi rallies are pretty clearly more of a danger to society than someone yelling fire in a crowded theater. But enjoy your hiatus!

Now this issue is why continue to front as some sort of rebellious leftist when you are or at the very least sympathetic to alt right nazis?
