If you were a non-ideological UKIP voter who was frustrated with the status quo and wanted out of the EU, May was not a natural choice.

Post-Brexit, once UKIP lost its reason for existing, you probably still have anti-establishment frustration to express via the ballot box.
-
Corbyn, having been viciously demonized by the political/media class, is a viable avatar for anti-establishmentarianism.
-
Obviously this wouldn't apply to UKIP voters who are ideologically conservative, for the most part. But they're not the whole story.
-
That Corbyn (evidently) drew UKIP support also validates his "conflicted Eurosceptic" stance during the referendum. It was the right balance

I didn't really think that's a good thing. ppl that radically shift from left to right are not an ideoligical base you can cultivate

You aren't paying attention. They were left leavers all along, as well as right.

A fair chunk (probably a majority) of them were lifelong Labour to begin with and just couldn't stomach shifting to the Tories

A lot of UKIP supporters are labour supporters, after winning the
#brexit vote , they went back to Labour to get rid of the Tories. -
They want
#Brexit Britain run by a Labour govt , not the Tories . - 2 more replies
