Right, transparency is key, but there are very good reasons why law enforcement agencies don't usually disclose investigations.

Yes, but the Congressional testimony made this an exceptional situation. Would be bad if it became a broader precedent.

The public ought to know if a candidate is being investigated for felonies; so the standard for disclosure is different.

what makes no sense is that the FBI *doesn't know* if the emails are duplicates. But they acted as if they aren't.

They said the emails "appear pertinent" which was evidently accurate enough, since the search warrant was granted.

Do you think it's be regrettable if Letter ends up winning election for Trump but it turns out all are duplicates?

If they were housed on a device that wasn't turned over, that's "pertinent" even if they turn out to be duplicates

certainly a much lesser degree of 'pertinent', certainly.

Not really. "Pertinent" per the investigative scope of the case. FBI documents make this clear.

you're making a procedural point. Glenn's is an empirical point abt the influence on election w *nothing new learned*.

But something new was learned: the existence of another device that contained pertinent emails.

You keep saying 'pertinent', but imo 'pertinent' rests solely on if they're new or not. (I know you disagree w that)
