What a joke. Aside from a few good provisions, this law is looking more and more like a total scamhttp://newyork.cbslocal.com/2016/10/26/obamacare-premiums-penalties/ …

only way to get premiums down is through a larger penalty. That's how the Swiss model works. Need more healthy ppl in system

Not saying its an ideal system. But one of the big flaws of the ACA is that the penalty is way too low to achieve its objective.

Switzerland also strictly regulates price of drugs, med devices, lab tests, etc. Keeps costs down for system.

Yeah. My impression is you need single payer, or heavily regulated private system that includes coercive mandate.

(In Switzerland, you can go to prison for not being insured).

If true, that's also absurd. And it still wouldn't make the Swiss system meaningfully analogous.

point is: You can't socialize healthcare costs w/o making ppl who would rather go without insurance (the healthy) pay up

to subsidize the sick/poor. SP does this through taxes, private system does this through coercive mandate.

I don't have insurance and I don't want to pay this ridiculous fee. That's my very simple, self-interested position.

So if something happened you'd leave it up to other's to pay your bills. Got it.

In our current, for profit healthcare system, you not having insurance will eventually affect others though right?

Didn't say it's the only one. but overall system benefits if "non-insured" as a category is forced into extinction.

Agree, increasing mandate w/o first lowering costs substantially creates an onerous burden for some in present

So when you get sick and go bankrupt your costs go back on the insurance companies, who raise premiums to cover that loss
