Is it really "conventionally Republican" to condemn the US government for squandering trillions of dollars on failed wars?
Richard Nixon made great hay out of precisely that claim in 1968.
Maybe so; wouldn't be "conventional" in more recent years though. You would not have heard Romney, McCain or GWB make that claim
I disagree. Go back and look at Bush's 2000 critique of Clinton's squandering of resources on "nation building" around the world.
I don't think Bush's rhetoric was anywhere near as strident in 2000. Either way, it's a departure in the post-9/11 era.
Trump also took up the hawkish GOP line that troops were removed too soon from Iraq, created ISIS, etc.
consistency obviously not Trump’s forte but I think with that he’s basically saying we should still be deeper in Iraq.
exactly. the problem for Trump is not wars, it's fighting the wrong wars, badly.
Trump's been saying the thing about BHO creating a "vacuum" in Iraq since the beginning of the campaign
look, i've consistently found it satisfying when he says we've wasted trillions on a misguided war.
Please show me where HRC has ever said anything remotely comparable.
