Corbyn's power within Labour writ large has greatly increased. He's fending off one feckless leadership challenger.

Should he win the leadership election as predicted, his hold on the party will be greater than ever, a triumph for the Left

Labour party deeply split. Tories looking likely to be in power for a generation. How's that a 'triumph for the left'?

Corbyn is the most left-wing Labour leader in generations. If his control of the party is cemented, that's a clear triumph.

Not it it leads to the party splitting and/or losing elections, it isn't. Triumphs are about gaining power, not positions.

Seizing control of the Labour Party is a significant short-term power gain.

Longer-term, Tories will be in power till 2020 unless there's a snap election. So nothing to be done about that presently.

Right now, Labour are not an effective opposition, let alone a government-in-waiting. No reason to expect them to win in 2020.

It's much too far in the future to make predictions with any degree of confidence.

Maybe, but Labour's shambolic response to Brexit vote so far has damaged prospects for reducing its regressive consequences.

Staging an incompetent "coup" to oust Corbyn rather than exploiting Tory divisions was a mistake by the Parliamentary party
