Trump ordered a full withdrawal from Syria last December, but there was still no plan in place 10 months later to actually facilitate a withdrawal when the latest order was issued. The military bureaucracy is as much to blame as anybody for the problems over the past two weeks

It's been a long time since I served but there was a tactic employed when you were ordered to so something. You never disobeyed an order but if you disagreed with it you just did it badly.

One caveat; it only works on weak leaders.

I agree 100%. Like him or not, president has been saying for years he wants out. Probably should have had a plan and probably should have told Kurds, "get ready because we will be leaving"

This argument works if you assume they weren't two separate orders.

Eventually people will be happy we got out of that mess. The Trump haters will fall back on the easy, "Well, I would've gotten out of there, too, but I'd have done it a better way." There is no clean way to leave. We shouldn't haven gotten entangled there in the first place.

The deep state… The bureaucrats… They don’t want to implement our presidents agenda and the people who voted for his agenda.

We never argued we'd actually leave Syria entirely, just that we were ending an active military operation. ...Which was a bold-faced lie every time we did it, yes :D.

I suspect the president has met with deep state opposition every step of the way. I believe we'll see more in the way of troop withdrawal in his second term. yep

That’s what happens when you staff your inner circles with career war hawks and purge nobody from the security services.

Not really dude. The MB is bad but literally anyone with any knowledge of the situation knew that what trump did would get Kurdish civilians killed in droves and it did. Also even if they'd had the best of intentions 10 months is not long enough to organize a Kurdish state, ffs.

I don't get the argument that when Trump wages war it's because of the MIC and Deep State, but when other presidents waged war it was because they did so willingly. If people are disobeying his orders he can fire them - or not hire warmongers in the first place.

The problem is, they are using the military for things they shouldn't. They can bomb the shit out of, and dispose anyone. The question is, why are they? And then parked to provide political cover to cowardly politicians back home
