"Credibility" = "Sunk Cost Fallacy". As to keep non-interventionists from stepping on their grant/consultancy/honoraria air hose.

American "credibility" in the Middle East was probably last truly palpable around the time of the Madrid Peace Conference of '91. And ironically those yelling loudest for "credibility" are generally those who most caused us to lose it via primitive policies for nearly 2 decades.

America's "credibility" re Syria! The US is responsible for much evil in its history for hegemony and resources. What it has done in Syria is up there with the very worst Prof Jeffrey Sachs and CIA's Operation

Just imagine how much credibility China has lost by not getting involved in any of these ME tribal conflicts. We've got an enormous credibility gap over them; now's not the time to squander it. Plus, our body bag industry puts theirs to shame. Sad.

Noam Chomsky has a speech about the word "credibility", it is a mafia term, to represent the ability to deliver violence.

Credibility is something manufactured by professional advertisers and propagandists. Some may remember the term "credibility gap" that used to drive people nuts. The problem wasn't that people were dying in an abominable war. The problem was that there was a credibility gap.

Correct. You can't lose credibility that you don't have.

Getting out of the Iran Nuclear Deal and the Paris Agreement. Changed how people look at deals with the US. Moving from an undeclared war zone at the request of a NATO ally not so much

There's no credibility anyways, all they're doing is trying to damage his reputation (more than what he does to himself) for pulling out and not following the imperial agenda.

it really got into common usage during Vietnam. Contemplating a negotiated settlement would damage US 'cedibility' because American only accepts 'unconditional surrender'
