The "fall" of Saigon was the culmination of years of failed policy by administrations of both parties, so in that sense it's an apt comparison -- but of course Susan Rice would never acknowledge her own complicity in the failurepic.twitter.com/zJTMxq0A7b

I find more interesting Rice's Freudian slip that the "SDF" entity the US tried to set up in NE Syria was as artificial as South Vietnam...

the fall of Saigon led to the end of the Vietnam war and a Vietnam that is now better off than it ever was before. So I guess Susan Rice still wishes we were at war in Vietnam?

Not hardly. It is Trump’s profile in courage moment, or will be if he follows through. We haven’t “lost” Syria as it wasn’t ours to lose. Assad was never as brutal or barbarous as the North Vietnamese despite the lying media propaganda.

QED, our withdrawal of a hostage, trip-wire force will be even less consequential to Syria's ultimate fate, whatever that may be.

But it's such a nice vivid talking point you can almost see the spin doctors sitting at a table high fiving themselves when they thought of it.

Would it made a difference had the US pulled out of Saigon in 1985 besides tens of thousands more dead? Was North Vietnam a NATO member?

Not comparable, other than involving the US. Vietnam overran the south two years after a peace deal. The US wasn't invited into Syria and Damascus is still intact under President Assad. Vietnam kicked out the US, tail between legs. This time they're not sticking around to see.

At the time--1970s--Democrats were anti-war and wanted the US to leave Indochina! Now Rice considers that a failure! Dems are as bad as GOP now! #Uniparty
