The midnight Rocky Horror Picture Show crowd would cause a terrorism red alert.

While this "hysteria" (for lack of a better word) is overblown, if I were to play Devil's advocate here, I would point to the Dark Knight movie shooting from 2012, as a valid reason for not wanting costumes in the theater. Though, by any metric, that situation is an outlier.

We had a weird guy in our theater last night who was laughing at the wrong times. Creepy.

I don't think it's lame to wear a Joker costume (wearing costumes is fun) but I agree with you about the manufactured paranoia.

They've done this for ALL movies, since that shooting in Aurora - the one at the theater. All my marvel movie friends/coworkers were no longer able to go in costume covering their face. Not even the marvel masks. This has been the norm. No reason to start feigning outrage now.

On July 20, 2012, a mass shooting occurred inside a Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, during a midnight screening of the film The Dark Knight Rises.

I had no idea what I was walking into with my 12 yo., in the midst of my much-needed media break. Wow!!! We have had hours of debriefing, and hours more to come. A real learning experience, Yay! Just what the stsus quo ordered.

Seems like the media is actively rooting (hoping) someone commits violence this weekend in a movie theatre so they can say “I told you so.” This is pathetic and scary,

It's a widespread belief (even though it turned out not to be true) that James Holmes was dressed as the Joker when he committed a mass shooting in a theater showing a Batman movie. I think the caution is warranted. The theater in Aurora, CO is not even showing the movie.
