A young man who was loudly cheering and applauding on-screen murders sent some people heading toward exits in a crowded theater in Manhattan's Times Square on Friday night. https://abcn.ws/2nj4yHq

      1) "Man cheers during movie" is only a news story because reporters were told to write stories reinforcing the bizarre, preordained narrative that the movie is somehow dangerous 2) These paranoid, emotionally-disturbed reactions suggest the movie was on to something thematically

The theater I saw "Joker" in had large signs prohibiting the wearing of "costumes" for safety reasons. It's clearly lame to wear a Joker costume to the movie theater, but the idea that you should feel your physical safety is threatened by this = more manufactured paranoia

It’s sad we’ve gotten to the point where people can’t watch a film that depicts how a mentally ill, marginalized person might be driven to kill without concluding that it glorifies said killing. Surprised there haven’t been calls to ban it yet.https://twitter.com/cnn/status/1180358458840899586?s=21 …

During one of the first screenings of 2001 a young man on LSD jumped up, ran down the aisle proclaiming, "It's god! It's god!". Somehow America survived. I know right.

Where does this preordained narrative come from? Probably by millennials who have been trained in university to think a certain way . Am always bemused by take that say that universities don’t influence the real world.

Remember when people used to fight for artistic expression? Now their worried about people fighting because of artistic expression. We have come full circle.

There's a pretty significant difference between "man cheers for movie" and "man cheers for murders in movie", wouldn't you say @mtracey? Not commenting on the newsworthiness of the cheering, but on your mischarterization of the headline.
