The bottom-line allegation in the whistleblower complaint is that Trump sought to "solicit interference from a foreign country" for electoral gain, which was the core animating theme of Russiagate. This is a continuation of Russiagate by another name

right except this time it happened. Like, if Trump literally called Putin and asked him to mess with Clinton, you’d agree that would be wrong, right?

The political themes introduced by Russiagate -- "soliciting foreign assistance," aka "collusion" -- provided the narrative underpinnings for why the Ukraine developments have been instantly deemed impeachment-worthy

Also, your comment seems to imply that it didn't happen before vis-a-vis Russia, which is interesting in light of how dominant that story was for several years.

If you read Karl Marx’s letters, half of it is gossiping about which minister is in the pay of the czar or some other foreign king (but often the czar). Comey didn’t invent the idea, but yeah, Russiagate elevated. But this Ukraine stuff is so obviously wrong anyway.

I agree that Russiagate elevated a lot of fallacies, hysteria, and other bad political outcomes, so if the premises underlying Russiagate are now going to be used to elevate this newest flareup, maintaining a critical distance seems more than justified.

Ehhhhhh. Come on dude. I’ve been with you 100 percent on the russiagate stuff because it was so much hype, media bungling, and innuendo. I think it’s too reductionist for only look at this phone cal through the lens of the russia narrative.

This singular event seemed to happen. It constitutes some crime and democrats are acting on it. I agree with Aaron that I wish it was for the hideous crimes against humanity this president has been a part of, but we have him on something here.

*Any* narrative will do b/c Dems are determined to impeach. They can't oust Trump through normal transfers of power aka elections because they have no winning candidate (since they're similarly determined to block Bernie and Tulsi). For Dems, this distracts from Medicare4All.

They are impeachment worthy because it’s a crime to use a foreign country to damage a domestic political rival. It’s an absolute abuse of power give it up get out of the bunker and remove the blinders
