The theory that impeachment would automatically be a strategic boon to Trump is also crazy. We have no idea what the political ramifications would be, and 1998 is a useless precedent for evaluating this:https://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/ny-oped-the-runaway-impeachment-train-20190528-jfedgjwbjnegrjxxehrzwx53fa-story.html …

I think if he does want it, it would be less about a coherent rational strategy and more to do with the fact that he loves attention and drama more than anything, they’re his life force.

You should add Richard Nixon to that list, as he would have been impeached, and certainly removed from office, had he not resigned before that could happen.

I dont think Trump wants it. This is more bs from dems. But look at Clintons approval rating after all the years they went after him. It will help Trump.

b/c the senate (judge and jury for impeachment) will never, ever, ever (no matter what) move to impeach him. so when they fail to impeach him, the story they will tell is "witchhunt+total exoneration" & they've only got one shot. It would play directly into his victim strategy.

Perhaps a true revolutionary anti-establishment POTUS was always going to be impeached by the angered establishment. When they impeach him, he should wear it like a badge of honour & take it as one of the scars he acquired in his historic battle against the political establishment

The President can count votes: it's the push to assemble 218 votes that will benefit him, because they can't get to 218 votes. In the meantime, he gets to tie them to the Mueller fiasco as nothing but 3 years of obstruction

He views himself as the ultimate victim, as do all Republicans. There is no better way to play the victim card than to be impeached by the crazy democrats.

The idea floating around maga circles is that voters will view impeachment proceedings as fundamentally unfair; thus reinforcing the "witch hunt" narrative.

I doubt that Trump has heard of Andrew Johnson.

Does anything about the last 36mo resemble any other time in history? Perhaps an overreach on impeachment sets the foundation for exposing fake news media lies & allows him to claim the moral high ground in advance of IG Horowitz report, FISA declass, and Durham/Barr indictments

This whole impeachment things is totally ridiculous. An extension of Clinton losing a rigged election. Trump did nothing wrong but give the establishment and deep state a blow. They fight back with mind control and propaganda- to program their brainwashed minions.
