The original novelty of Twitter was that all users were fundamentally on the same playing field. That kind of "egalitarianism" -- for all its faults -- is now seen as passé or even evil. So the designers, largely in response to media pressure, are increasingly abolishing it

They gave me the hide reply power on my posts. I haven't used it yet, but I will to the first person that claims yellow starbursts are the best. Some things I can't tolerate.

This is the feature that turned Twitter into cable TV.

These giant monopolies are controlling the narrative, Tulsi is 100% correct. It's time we elect a president with common sense
#Tulsi2020 -
I've supported Tulsi however I don't truly understand her welcome to Modi

I went after Harris for grandstanding on civil rights; they called me a Russian bot. After I posted a picture of myself (a black man) holding a note saying 'I'm not a bot w/ my username' my post as marked as 'sensitive material' and hidden.
-
Maybe they just thought your pic was too hot for sensitive souls.

Once a platform or site no longer allows public comments, I can’t be bothered reading it. Twitter seems intent on destroying itself in order to provide critique-free safe-spaces to elites. Too bad really.

I won't use it that's just super weak. I don't think I have it yet but even if I did that would just be too embarrassing to actually use it on people. Can't believe that Twitter is still going forward with this bullshit "new feature"

"Toxicity" these days just means "anything-I-personally-don't like".

Twitter's aggressive
#deboosting crusade is also extremely vexing. The platform seems intent on driving its own users away.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Is this only for blue checks or for us plebs as well ? Either way it’s trash and an edit button would serve the people way better.

I just mute the conversation and would never hide replies. This is just sad.

Ironically, most high profile blue checkmark accounts filter their mentions only to include people they follow, and they never read replies from us plebs. That may change now as they’ll rigorously review replies to see which negative ones they can hide.

I am fine with any feature that allows you to say what you want without being banned or shadow-banned. Letting people personalize what they see is much better that limiting what I see for their comfort.
-
Misunderstood earlier. Thought you could hide replies on the feed you're viewing to follow one thread, not that an OP could hide replies from everyone. Be sure to hit show then retweet often to uncover what is hidden.

Why not just have an option to disable comments altogether?

If "toxic" means abuse, no one deserves that. I do believe, however, in speaking truth to power and the people who enable those in power. Considering we can already block/mute accounts and can mute conversations, I don't understand the need for hiding replies.
