Trump may or may not have corruptly "promised" something to coerce Ukraine into taking action: we don't have the details. But, subjective assessments from anonymous "intelligence officials" have a horrible recent track record, and Dems obliterated their credibility via Russiagate

Also, whether you like it or not (I don't), the president has hugely broad latitude in the conduct of foreign affairs. So even if Trump did "promise" something, it's far from established that it would be within the purview of the Intelligence Community to "whistleblow" about

The mechanism for imposing accountability in the event of untoward (but not necessarily illegal) presidential diplomatic conduct would be through the electoral process -- not through opaque machinations of the security state, which has been the trend since Trump took office

That actually would be impeachment. But how could it be solved through the "electoral process" if no one was ever told about it?

I love how some of the the same people who championed transparency, leaks, and whistleblowing in the public interest only a few years ago are suddenly arguing for impenetrable secrecy and unchecked executive power at the upper echelons of government. Utterly ridiculous.

I could agree more. Elections have consequences. If you don’t like the current administration, try winning at the ballot box. That how it works in a democratic republic.

The electoral process cannot address secret untoward behavior by any sort of politician. That's why transparency is so important in a democratic society
