Bolton aside, Trump hasn't started any new wars (yet). He's come close, and he's escalated wars begun by his predecessors, but he hasn't started any new ones. That's a low bar, but still notable because the same cannot be said for most recent presidents

His foreign policy has been a mess numerous other respects, and we're in a sad state when "credit" must be allocated to a president for doing the bare minimum of not starting new wars. But again, still notable -- whether you want to acknowledge it or not

By this point in his presidency Obama had already started the Libya war and surged massively in Afghanistan, both of which were disasters. He later started the Syria regime change op, the Yemen catastrophe, and Iraq War 3.0 (which, by the way, is still illegal)

None of this excuses other aspects of Trump's foreign policy which have been bad (going to the brink of war with Iran this summer was absurd) but it's still a historically notable point of reference

I think you have to give him credit for deciding not to bomb Iran after the whole drone debacle. Clearly, many forces wanted that attack to happen and I think we can all agree that he made the right call by ignoring them.

Also, his willingness to engage with NK for peace talks is something I don't think any other person who ran for President in 2016 would have done. Sure it may not get anywhere, but it could and that's the point.

George W. Bush started two unwinnable, endless wars that we are still fighting. Criminal banks caused collapse of our economy under Bush in 2007. Bush had the ruthless Cheney as VP. Trump the simpleton Pence. Trump is unbelievable bad. Bush was worse.

Excellent news. 40 years of sanctions... Enough unnecessary tensions. Had bureaucrats been involved, the 30 year war would have lasted 300 years. https://twitter.com/JenniferJJacobs/status/1171812365576409088 …

It's called brinksmanship, a skill that other recent presidents have completely lacked. Iran doesn't respect words they respect power. You say the bar is low but this is some of the best foreign policy America has seen in 100 years.

Trump was the one that didn’t want to bomb Iran. We know your buddies in the media won’t like you if you speak up for Trump. But it’s undeniable that Trump is a different president than the uni-Party 28 year run ((2) Bushes, Clinton, Obama)... we should celebrate that he is.

We’re not remotely close to going to war with Iran. That’s silly. Both sides think it’s good politics to escalate every so often, that’s all.

Going to the brink of war with Iran isn’t necessarily absurd; why would anyone negotiate with you if you lack the will for war? They’ll just agree with your terms and violate them at will, because you’re impotent. The left’s biggest is sure is they don’t know how to deal with
