WTF are you talking about? My "agenda" is to discourage kids from getting irreparable brain damage. Brett Favre has called football a "violent sport" and suggested that he would not allow his sons to play. Is that also some sinister "agenda"?https://twitter.com/WhitlockJason/status/1165735287642738688 …

Young children lack the agency to make fully informed decisions for themselves. Habituating them into football at an extremely early age, and then blaming them for the ensuing brain damage because they weren't technically "forced" to play, is grotesque

If you pay property taxes, there's a good chance you subsidize a school football program. Which means your $$$ goes to funding something that the science overwhelmingly shows causes horrific brain damage. Football should be phased out of public life. If that makes you mad, tough

I get angry about this subject because who knows how many people have been consigned to lives of unnecessary stress, impaired memory, anger control issues, depression, and other mental/physical injury because a bunch of quasi-macho idiots decided it's good for their "character"

Andrew luck didn't retire because of CTE or concussions. He had a shoulder injury and a calf/ankle injury. Using luck's retirement to speak on head injuries is misleading.

I agree with you, but you also can't ignore the socioeconomic element here. Some of these guys are playing because it's their only way out of a bad situation. What do you suggest, they just play baseball even tho their skillset is geared towards football? This isn't simple.

Football gives so much opportunity for these players. Everyone knows the risks. The game is working to be safer. Why not let people alone to make their own choices?

Am grieved to hear of the sad ending of this young man. Have to wonder whether there are any upsides. Soccer players also get brain damaged. Bo Jackson got his injuries in a baseball game. Where do we go from here?

Here you go— Interestingly, the traumatic brain disease is identified in both athletes and non-athletes. Largest study of CTE finds it in 6% of subjects by Kevin F. Bieniek, et al (Bieniek co-authored what was originally coined the Mayo ‘control’ study.https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/bpa.12757 …

Nice cherry picking. The overwhelming majority of kids who grew up playing football don’t deal with those problems

I'm not at all qualified to talk on the subject. But the obvious replacement seems to be Rugby. It checks a lot of the same boxes. But it's not just guys running straight into each other. And the lack of equipment means they can't hit as hard.
