A 21-year-old football player killed himself last year, and an autopsy later showed that he already had extensive CTE. At 21. So no, children should not be subjected to this. Young children lack the agency to make fully informed decisions for themselves. Habituating them into football at an extremely early age, and then blaming them for the ensuing brain damage because they weren't technically "forced" to play, is grotesque

If you pay property taxes, there's a good chance you subsidize a school football program. Which means your $$$ goes to funding something that the science overwhelmingly shows causes horrific brain damage. Football should be phased out of public life. If that makes you mad, tough

I get angry about this subject because who knows how many people have been consigned to lives of unnecessary stress, impaired memory, anger control issues, depression, and other mental/physical injury because a bunch of quasi-macho idiots decided it's good for their "character"

Brett Favre has that luxury as the game allowed him to make millions of dollars. Whitlock's overall point is that kids that come from backgrounds like he did, have a better chance to improve their lives by getting scholarships to go to college and if they're good enough play pro.

Football is a violent sport. Its understood the first time you tackle or get tackled. Its also voluntary risk. Soccer is less risky, but i got my first concussion from soccer when I was 12. Didnt get one in football until junior year in HS. But you Live scared. Not me.

Is it possible to change the game’s rules just enough to reduce the frequency & severity of head injuries? Also , with all the advancements in biomedical engineering, why haven’t they developed a better helmet design?
-
They come out with new helmets every year. That’s why Antonio brown has been throwing a fit lately bc they won’t let him use his 10 year old helmet. They make better and better helmets every year, something they’re constantly working on even in the offseason.

I'm pretty sure
@KingJames said he didn't want his kids playing football either -
His son did play football. My sons team played his sons team in 5th grade. I have not allowed my son to play since that year. His head got knocked around like a pinball. For some kids it is not safe or a good idea

The average person knows nothing about traumatic brain injuries and their long term effects and outcomes, and it shows. To claim that anyone who is concerned about tbi’s simply has an agenda shows that the person making the claim is the one with the real agenda;and it’s football.
