Even before that, the media’s claims of starving Afghans in late 2001 and W’s mawkishness led to a shift from Rumsfeld’s punitive air power + special forces expedition to an 18-year “humanitarian” occupation.

Its asinine and absurd on its face. How do you "ensure" behavior in a foreign country? Its not possible.

Yes and Diane Sawyer walked around Kabul in a burka with a camera inside showing how tough the view was for women inside the oppressive garment. Not telling anyone that the women dressed in modern attire before US backed the taliban.

Stay in Afghanistan to protect women’s rights? I guess these same women from Afghanistan didn’t mind when their sons and husbands died in this endless war. The same people they depend on for protection, safety, and food. There is a better way to help them than warfare.

It is opposite in Syria, where we supported rebels who give women zero rights.

I would like to clarify that this statement applies primarily to the FSA and its jihadist transformation. The Turkish/Northern Syrian Kurds (Rojava), whom the US also supported, have one of the most gender egalitarian societies in the world.

Well, after all, women can at least drive in Saudi Arabia so right on Marianne Williamson, right?
-
That's probably a bad example considering the women who lead that protest got executed.

just more contradicting, liberal hegemonic rhetoric that puts a magnifying glass on women’s rights in countries we’ve destabilized while ignoring our coziness with dictatorships that have a horrible history of equal rights.

If we are so worried about them we should invite them to move here. Give them the safety of America.

As harsh as it may seem, we can't always change the whole world to suit our mores and reflect our values. Sometimes you need to say good luck and if you want our help we'll see what we can do.

The U.S. used RAWA to sell the public on the invasion of Afghanistan, they quickly became opposed once they saw the U.S. slaughter of civilians that ensued.
