NYT unwittingly articulates a core reason why many in the "natsec" world hate Trump: they think he's a manifestation of the "erosion of American power and global influence" (i.e., they're upset that the US can't single-handedly dictate world affairs) https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/13/world/asia/trump-asia.html …pic.twitter.com/VQRspQuzie

The US under Trump maintains a massive global portfolio and a military presence in 100+ countries but the perpetually paranoid think tank brigades think the US is on the brink of irrelevancy when it can't directly intercede in Kashmir https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/appj/dwp/rest/download?fileName=DMDC_Website_Location_Report_1903.xlsx&groupName=milRegionCountry …

When it comes to exerting influence, sometimes less is more. This core, common sense principal has either knowingly or unknowingly been ignored by US for decades now. How did Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, Syria etc increase American power/image? Only made US look like the villain.

Considering the ‘natsec world’ must have known everything that Jeffery Epstein was doing ‘for’ the elite of our government we are doomed.

Why should I give a shit if they're were right? It's not like middle America sees any gains from it. So even if dropping the moral objections to said arrangement (unconvincing to them anyway), pragmatically dumb to go along. Divergent interests are no way to run the US.

What are we supposed to do? Send a strongly worded letter? Cut off all trade and collapse the global stock market?

The truth is that the U.S. elite (left and right) LOVES running the empire. Actual Americans bore them. They want to get on those military transport planes and fly halfway across the globe. The difference b/w them & English viceroys managing the colonies is less than they imagine
