Does anyone in their right mind think that these "tools" developed by state authorities in conjunction with tech companies are going to be used solely to "detect mass shooters"? Everybody else can go on their merry way? (Also, "pre-crime" used to be a science fiction concept)pic.twitter.com/EzPYfMPAh4

Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA), a former NSA contractor, today called for "predictive analysis" based on mass aggregation of social media data. Sounds totally fool-proof and not at all ominous, or prone to abuse

Every "terrorist attack" comes with a built-in justification for the expansion of state power, usually in tandem with "corporate partners," to more aggressively surveil the citizenry

Harvard professor Lawrence Lessig gave a talk about internet rights around 2007. He mentioned that counter terrorism czar Richard Clarke told him that an "i-patriot act" was already waiting. Video and transcript 👇 https://youtu.be/7IgUfEsGM9I pic.twitter.com/daSdutPhvR

And so we wonder if these incidents are false flag operations, specifically designed to enact draconian laws that limit freedoms, free speech - on and off-line - and increased surveillance of the populace?

If they do this the social media companies need to have total free speech and allow everything, ban nothing. The data from that would make haters & psychos easily detectible & traceable. Imagine a bot that can get into their phones and follow them everywhere, read texts & listen.

Is there an atrocity that will not be used by the security services - no matter what country - to demand more powers, more public trust and less scrutiny?

In the US the pretext is already set: can't get rid of guns and the second amendment so this is a viable measure to mitigate, intrude, control. "Trust" is already being established with AI - the all-knowing independent arbiter.

agreed, but what can we do? I don't think that the Social Justice Warrior crowd will step up and take charge of helping, they will just keep throwing oil on the fire.....I don't trust the government either....what are we going to do?

Bet anything it will be used to silence and police leftists more than white nationalist. White nationalism is ubiquitous in our culture. It will end up the way facebook refuses to take down overtly anti-black posts, but take down pro-black posts all the time.
